Clip-filters: for your DSLR or mirrorless camera
A clip-on filter snaps into the camera body, behind the lens. So you don't have to buy a separate filter for each lens. Narrowband filters: H-alpha, OIII and SII
For a monochrome astrocamera or a cooled color camera, you use narrowband filters. A H-alpha 7 nm is the starting point: he brings out hydrogen nebulas, even in moonlight. If you want the classic Hubble colors, you combine H-alpha with OIII and SII; as set in the SHO-kit 7 nm 2 inch or, for fast optics and heavy light pollution, the SHO-kit 3 nm. A 3 nm filter lets in less light and requires longer exposures; 7 nm is the safe choice for a first set.
What size
1.25 inches fit in every standard focuser and on most small cameras; you need 2 inches with larger sensors and fast refractors to prevent vignetting. Unmounted 36 mm filters are for filter wheels.
