The Omegon AC 70/700 AZ-2 is the classic refractor telescope among the entry-level models: 70 mm aperture, 700 mm focal length (f/10) and an alt-azimuth mount that you operate as you think. For 129 euros, you get a complete set that shows the Moon, the bright planets, and open star clusters sharply and with high contrast.
The achromatic doublet lens with multi-coating combines two types of glass to reduce chromatic aberration. At high magnification, a thin color fringe remains visible around bright objects; this is characteristic of this type of lens and does not interfere with normal use.
From 35x to 140x with the included set
With the 20mm and 10mm Kellner eyepieces, you view at 35x and 70x. The 2x Barlow lens doubles that to 70x and 140x: precisely up to the practical maximum for this aperture.
At 140x magnification, you can see Saturn's rings separate from the planet and Jupiter's cloud bands, provided the air is calm.
AZ-2: Aim without thinking
The azimuthal mount moves up, down, left, and right. You track objects with small nudges as they move across the sky. For visual observing, that's the fastest way to work.
