Optolong Filters Pro Veil SII 3nm 2” is designed for astrophotographers seeking maximum contrast when capturing faint nebular structures. This narrowband filter is specifically tuned to the sulfur II (SII) emission line around 672 nm and effectively blocks unwanted stray light and light pollution. The result: finer details and higher signal-to-noise ratio at long exposures.
Thanks to the extremely narrow bandwidth of 3 nm, only the most relevant photons are passed through. This makes the filter particularly suitable for photography from areas with moderate to heavy light pollution. In combination with H-alpha and OIII filters, this SII filter forms the basis for the well-known Hubble palette (SHO), which allows you to take colorful and scientifically inspired astrophotos.
Optolong's high-quality multilayer coating ensures high transmission in the transmission range and strong suppression of adjacent spectral lines. The glass is optically polished for maximum sharpness so that even at fast telescopes (f/3 - f/4) there are no perceptible distortions.
Observation goals
This filter is ideal for astrophotographers who want to capture emission nebulae such as the Veil Nebula or Crab Nebula with maximum detail reproduction. It is especially useful when photographing from light-polluted areas or when using narrow-band techniques for the SHO palette. For optimal results, use it in combination with H-alpha and OIII filters.
