Classic interference filters like CLS or UHC only work well when light strikes them perpendicularly. With wide-angle lenses, this causes problems: the transmission shifts towards the edges of the image, and color blotches appear. The Clear Sky filter is constructed differently, which is why it works with wide-angle and even ultra-wide-angle lenses.

The filter dims the light from streetlights, making the night sky darker and bringing out the structure of the Milky Way better. You screw it directly into the 77mm filter thread of your lens.
