Sky-Watcher Evostar 80EDX: FPL-53 Sharpness in Mid-Size

The Sky-Watcher Evostar 80EDX is an 80/600mm (f/7.5) apochromatic refractor featuring a premium Japanese Ohara FPL-53 ED element and Schott crown glass: chromatic aberration is virtually eliminated. Metallic High-Transmission Coatings squeeze the maximum number of photons through each lens transition, and the integrated 2.8-inch focuser with 360-degree rotation adapter is built for camera work.

What can you photograph and see with it?

At this focal length, smaller deep-sky objects come within reach: globular clusters, planetary nebulae, and more compact galaxies, in addition to the classic large nebulae. Visually, the image is what an ED refractor is famous for: pitch-black background, needle-sharp stars, and planets without color fringing. These are tubes that seriously serve both worlds.

The unfocus as foundation

The large 2.8-inch focuser carries heavy cameras without bending, and the rotation adapter allows you to frame the image without touching the focus. The finder shoe accepts any Sky-Watcher finder or a small guide scope for autoguiding: this tube is designed to grow with your ambitions.

• Virtually no cooling time and no collimation: A refractor is ready within fifteen minutes, and the optics stay aligned. More time for photons.
• The setup determines your photo result: An HEQ5-class mount gives this tube with camera the stability that FPL-53 optics deserve; a Star Adventurer GTi can be used for short focal lengths and light cameras.
• Plan to flatten me: For sharp stars all the way to the corners of your sensor, a field flattener is essential for a photographic refractor. Order it along with your initial purchase to avoid a second waiting period.
• Dew control is essential with lenses: A dew cap or dew heater prevents the front lens from fogging up in the middle of a session.
• Visually pleasing as well: At 100x magnification (with a 6mm eyepiece), the moon and planets are incredibly sharp and color-pure.
• Never look directly at the sun without protection., not even for one photo: only with a certified solar filter in front.
