Omegon AC 70/400 Solar Backpack AZ: The sun telescope in a backpack

The Omegon AC 70/400 Solar BackPack AZ is built for a purpose that is especially relevant this year: safely viewing the sun. The included CE-certified solar filter blocks 99.999 percent of sunlight, allowing you to track sunspots sharply and without any risk. On August 12, 2026, a deep partial solar eclipse will be visible from the Netherlands and Belgium: exactly what this set is made for.

The complete set, telescope, tripod, eyepieces, and filter, fits in the included backpack. This way, you can be ready in minutes, even at a vacation spot or an open field.

The CE-certified solar filter of the Omegon Solar BackPack

Sunbathe safely: always filter first

The plug-in solar filter goes over the front of the tube, so sunlight is dimmed before it enters the optics. Always place the filter on before aiming and check it for damage before each use: never look at the sun through a telescope without an undamaged filter, as this will cause permanent eye damage within a second.

Without a filter, this is simply a wide-field telescope in the evening: with a 70 mm aperture and 400 mm focal length (f/5.7), you can see the Moon, star fields, and open star clusters in a wide field of view.

Omegon AC 70/400 Solar Backpack on Aluminum Tripod

Two eyepieces: 20x and 40x

With the 20 mm eyepiece, you observe at 20x and the entire solar disk fits comfortably in the field of view. The 10 mm eyepiece magnifies to 40x for details in sunspot groups. The 5x24 finder scope helps with aiming; when observing the sun, never use the finder scope, but aim using the shadow of the tube.

Included

  • AC 70/400 optics with multicoating
  • CE-certified clip-on solar filter
  • Azimuth mount with light aluminum tripod
  • 20 mm and 10 mm eyepieces (1.25 inch)

Featured accessories

Bresser solar eclipse glasses (3.20 euros each) allow family and friends to safely watch along while you look through the telescope. The Omegon 7-21mm zoom eyepiece (69 euros) provides stepless magnification from 19x to 57x, and with the Omegon smartphone adapter 25-48mm (14.90 euros), you can photograph sunspots through the eyepiece.

For whom yes, for whom no

For: Anyone who wants to safely observe the solar eclipse of August 12, 2026, and sunspots, whether at home or while traveling. Not for: Those primarily interested in viewing planets at high magnification at night; a longer focal length, such as the AC 70/700, is more suitable for that purpose.
