Sky-Watcher EQ5 Pro SynScan GoTo: the entry-level choice for motorized tracking

The EQ5 Pro is an equatorial mount with a payload capacity of 10 kg. This allows it to support mid-sized telescopes such as a 150/750 Newtonian or a 100 mm refractor stably enough for visual work and taking the first steps into astrophotography. Stepper motors on both axes and the SynScan GoTo system with 42,900 objects locate and track any target automatically.

After a polar alignment via the built-in polar scope, you select an object on the hand controller and the mount slews to it. The tracking compensates for the Earth's rotation, keeping the moon, planets, and deep-sky objects in the field of view. The mount supports 1-, 2-, and 3-star alignment and has separate tracking speeds for stars, the moon, and the sun.

Ready for the first astrophotographs

Through the autoguider port (ST-4) you connect a guiding camera for longer exposures. The steel tripod with accessory tray keeps the setup vibration-free. For purely visual use, the GoTo system is primarily convenience: less searching, more viewing.

The Oklop transport bag for EQ5, HEQ5, and AZEQ5 protects the mount on the go. With the Sky-Watcher SynScan Wi-Fi Adapter, you control the mount via the SynScan Pro app, and the 16-inch (40.6 cm) extension pier for EQ5 and HEQ5 prevents a long Newtonian telescope from hitting the tripod.

Well: observers with a telescope up to about 8 kg who want automatic search and tracking, and beginner astrophotographers with short focal lengths. Not: anyone planning heavy tubes or long exposures with large optics, who would be better off with the HEQ5 Pro or EQ6-R Pro.
