Sky-Watcher HEQ-5 Pro SynScan GoTo: the trusted start of serious astrophotography
The HEQ5 Pro has been the mount used by many astrophotographers for their first deep-sky shots for years. With a payload capacity of 13.7 kg, it can carry medium-sized Newtonians, ED refractors, and complete camera setups with guide scopes. The construction is significantly heavier and stiffer than the EQ5, which is immediately noticeable in the image stability.
The SynScan GoTo system with 42,900 objects automatically positions the telescope after a 1-, 2-, or 3-star alignment. The built-in polar scope makes polar alignment quick and repeatable. Tracking speeds for stars, the moon, and the sun are standard.
Photographing with autoguiding
Via the ST-4 autoguider port, a guide camera corrects tracking during long exposures. Combined with a 150/750 Newtonian or an 80mm ED refractor, this is a proven deep-sky combination. The two 5.1 kg counterweights also balance a full photographic setup.
Included
- HEQ5 Pro mount head
- SynScan GoTo Hand Controller (42,900 Objects)
- Steel tripod (max. height 121 cm, 5.6 kg)
- 2 counterweights of 5.1 kg
- Pole finder
Featured accessories
The Oklop transport bag for EQ5, HEQ5, and AZEQ5 ensures safe transport. The SynScan Wi-Fi Adapter enables control via the SynScan Pro app, and the pillar support for HEQ5 and EQ5 or the 16-inch extension pier provides extra clearance for long tubes above the tripod.
For whom yes, for whom no
Suitable for: Astrophotographers seriously wanting to start with deep-sky and observers with optics up to approximately 10 kg. Not suitable for: Those who want to photographically use a large Newton (200/1000 or similar) or a heavy SCT; for these, the EQ6-R Pro is the more logical base.
