Sky-Watcher WAVE-150i: strainwave power for the traveling astrophotographer
The WAVE-150i uses a harmonic strain wave drive, the same gear technology used in robotics. The result is a mount that carries 15 kg with a weight of only 5.8 kg, without the need for a counterweight. That ratio makes it ideally suited for mobile deep-sky astrophotography with serious optics.
The strainwave drive combines minimal backlash with high rigidity and smooth tracking. You use the mount equatorially or in Alt-AZ mode, with a polar adjustment from 0 to 90 degrees. Operation is via WiFi or Bluetooth with the SynScan Pro app, or via PC with ASCOM and INDI; Stellarium is also supported. Autoguiding and PEC are on board.
Dual-fit saddle and transport case
The mounting plate accepts both Vixen- and Losmandy-style rails. The mount comes in a sturdy transport case and fits tripods with a standard 3/8-inch connection, such as the matching WAVE Carbon tripod.
Included
- WAVE-150i mounting head with strain wave drive
- Dual-fit saddle for Vixen and Losmandy rails
- Heavy-duty transport case
Featured accessories
The Sky-Watcher WAVE Carbon Fiber tripod is the matching lightweight and torsionally rigid base. Anyone who wants physical control can connect the optional SynScan hand controller.
For whom yes, for whom no
For: astrophotographers who want to run heavy optics on the go without dragging counterweights and tripod ballast. Not for: those who mainly do visual observation with a light tube, for which an AZ-GTi or Star Discovery is more than sufficient.
