12-inch: almost 1900 times more light than the naked eye!

The Omegon Advanced X 304/1500 is the largest Advanced X: a 12-inch mirror that captures almost 1900 times more light than the naked eye. Faint galaxies, planetary nebulae with structure, and globular clusters down to their core: this is the gateway to the deep sky. A Dobsonian consists of two parts: tube and rockerbox. Set it up, point, observe. No alignment, no electronics, maximum mirror for your money.

Rockerbox of the Advanced X 304

12-inch optics with fan

With the 25mm Plössl eyepiece, you observe at 60x magnification. The theoretical maximum is over 600x; in practice, the atmosphere limits this to around 300x to 350x, and at this magnification, this aperture shows its strength in brightness and detail. The f/4.9 optics require precise collimation, and the fan significantly reduces the cooldown time of the substantial mirror.

Smooth turning, fine focusing

The Teflon bearings with tension springs rotate smoothly in any direction, right up to the zenith. The parabolic primary mirror with 94% enhanced coating extracts merkbar more light from the same aperture than standard coatings. Expect a tube weighing about 15 kilograms: still manageable for one person to carry, but plan your setup location carefully.

Featured accessories

The Omegon laser collimator (44.90 euros) is indispensable at f/4.9. An Omegon UWA 6 mm eyepiece (250x, 59 euros) provides the necessary magnification for detail, while the Omegon Pro UHC 2-inch (89 euros) and OIII 2-inch (99 euros) eyepieces bring out the best in nebulae. An Omegon 13% 2-inch lunar filter (34.90 euros) is no luxury at this aperture. For transport, the Armor transport bag Newton 300/1500 (229 euros).

For whom yes, for whom no

For: deep-sky enthusiasts with a dark sky within reach and room for the size. Not for: city balcony observers; light pollution limits what this aperture extra brings. Compare on the Dobson page. Meer Omegon stands on the merk page.
