The Cheshire eyepiece has been the go-to tool for collimation for generations: an eyepiece, crosshairs, and an angled reflective surface that directs ambient light into the image. This allows you to see exactly how the secondary and primary mirrors are aligned, and to adjust both step-by-step.

No batteries, no electronics, nothing that can expire: a Cheshire is always well aligned itself. Many observers combine it with a laser collimator: the Cheshire for the secondary mirror and the check, the laser for quick primary mirror correction in the field.
