When collimating with an eyepiece, you have to look and adjust the screws behind the telescope alternately. With a laser, you see the result on the collimation disc while you turn, so you can work by yourself without walking back and forth.
45 degree disc
The built-in 45-degree mirror shows you the reflected laser dot from the back of the telescope. This allows you to align both the secondary mirror and the primary mirror.
