Our beginner's choice: the complete 8-inch Dobsonian!

The Omegon Advanced X 203/1200 is our firm recommendation for beginners for good reason: 8-inch parabolic mirror, a genuine Crayford focuser, mirror fan, and an 8x50 finderscope, all at a price where others offer a 6-inch. A Dobsonian consists of two parts: tube and rocker box. Set up, point, observe. No alignment, no electronics, maximum mirror for your money.

Omegon Dobson Advanced X 203-1200 Crayford Focuser

8 inch optics with fan

The 203 mm mirror captures over 800 times more light than the naked eye: galaxies, globular clusters, and nebulae truly come within reach, alongside razor-sharp planetary detail. With the 25 mm Plössl eyepiece, you get 48x magnification; the maximum is around 400x under good conditions. The built-in fan halves the cooldown time of the primary mirror.

Omegon Dobsonian Advanced X 203/1200 truss tube

Smooth turning, fine focusing

The Teflon bearings with tension springs rotate smoothly in any direction, right up to the zenith. The parabolic primary mirror with 94% enhanced coating extracts merkbar more light from the same aperture than standard coatings. The 2-inch Crayford tube accommodates heavy wide-angle eyepieces without wobble, and the 8x50 finder scope reveals fainter stars than the typical 6x30 model.

Featured accessories

An Omegon Cronus WA 7 mm eyepiece (171x, 79 euros) is the planetary magnification option. The Omegon laser collimator (44.90 euros) comes standard with every Dobsonian. An Omegon 13% moon filter (27.90 euros) reduces the glare of the Moon when viewed through an 8-inch telescope, and the Omegon Pro UHC 2-inch filter (89 euros) brings out the details in nebulae. The Omegon eyepiece holder for Dobsons (16.90 euros) completes the set.

For whom yes, for whom no

Well: everyone who wants to get serious; this is the measure we in the Beginner's Guide advise as the best balance between performance, size, and price. Not: if you are looking for a tabletop model or something portable, then look at the Dobson page to the compact models. More Omegon is on the merk page.
