127 mm FCD-1 triplet: contrast above the doublet class
The Explore Scientific 127/952 ED Essential is a powerful 127 mm triplet refractor with exceptional contrast and color correction, for advanced observers and astrophotographers. Three lenses with Hoya's FCD-1 ED glass and two air gaps deliver a calculated Strehl ratio above 0.9: razor-sharp, color-neutral images, even at high magnification.
Built for visual and photographic work
The solid aluminum tube and the Crayford focuser with 1:10 fine adjustment also stably support heavier cameras. With a 952mm focal length (f/7.5), this model combines brightness and resolution: planets and double stars at a high visual level, and with the separately available field flattener, a flat field of view all the way to the sensor edges. Tube rings, a dew shield, and an accessory shoe for a finder or guidescope are included in the box. Magnifications up to around 250x are practically meaningful.
In the box
- Optical tube 127/952 FCD-1 ED-triplet
- Crayford focuser with 1:10 fine adjustment
- Tube Rings
- Dew cap
- Accessory shoe (T-profile)
For whom yes, for whom no
For: advanced observers and photographers seeking triplet contrast in the 127mm class at a fair price. Not for: those who want a complete GoTo set; look instead to the 102 FCD-100 on the iEXOS-100 mount.
