Smart refractor with WiFi: your smartphone is the hand controller
The Celestron Astro Fi 90 is a smart refractor that you operate entirely via your smartphone or tablet. The telescope emits its own WiFi signal, so internet access is not needed: connect, open the free SkyPortal app, tap an object, and the telescope will automatically point to it. The 90 mm achromat with a 910 mm focal length delivers sharp, high-contrast images of the Moon and planets.
SkyAlign via the app
Point the telescope at three bright celestial bodies and the software automatically determines your position; you don't need to know a single star by name. The SkyPortal app then shows what is visible that evening, complete with background information for each object. The 25 mm and 10 mm eyepieces deliver 36x and 91x; realistically usable is up to about 180x.
What you see with it
The lunar craters and their shadows, the four large moons of Jupiter, and the rings of Saturn are the regular highlights. Under a dark sky, bright deep-sky objects such as the Orion Nebula and the Pleiades are added. The erecting prism provides an upright image, so during the day the telescope also works for nature observation.
For whom yes, for whom no
Pros: Those who want to work without a hand controller and explore the starry sky via a modern app, with a classically calm lens image. Cons: Those who are primarily looking for faint nebulae and galaxies; in that case, choose a reflector with a larger aperture like the Astro Fi 130.
