Compact optics on a full German equatorial mount!

The Bresser Messier 100/1400 EXOS-1 puts the compact Maksutov optics on a full-fledged German equatorial mount. That provides image stability at high magnification, exactly what these optics are made for.

Maksutov optics: high contrast, no maintenance

The Maksutov design folds a 1400 mm focal length into a short, closed tube. The meniscus lens corrects the mirror almost completely: no chromatic aberration and a small central obstruction, hence high contrast. The 100 mm aperture yields 54x with the included 26 mm eyepiece; use approximately 200x as the maximum (f/14). Collimation is rarely needed, and the optics are virtually maintenance-free. Allow for 30 to 45 minutes of cool-down time: the closed tube needs to reach ambient temperature for the sharpest image.

The EXOS-1 mount

The EXOS-1 is an EQ-4 class equatorial mount. After aligning on Polaris, you track objects with the slow-motion cables. An RA motor is available as an upgrade.
