The PE160 places your ZWO AM3 or AM5 160 mm higher on the TC40 tripod. That is exactly the space you need if you need a longer tube or a camera mount for low viewing angles or around the zenith against a tripod foot.
The aluminum column screws into place between the mounting bracket and the tripod without additional adapters and keeps the setup rigid. If you have a long tube or a lot of mounting hardware, check out the PE200 with a height of 200 mm.
