Small, light, and surprisingly powerful: the entry-level apo from William Optics

The William Optics ZenithStar 61 II delivers a bright, sharp, and color-accurate image in a super-compact design. Quickly set up, easily focused, and immediate results: as a travel refractor, as a lightweight astrophotography tube on a star tracker, and as a well-corrected telescope for visual sessions.

The ZenithStar 61 II with tube rings and dovetail

FPL-53 doublet with dual use

The 61mm doublet with FPL-53 ED glass keeps colors tight: stars remain pinpoint sharp, and edges clean. The 360mm focal length (f/5.9) provides a wide field for starscapes and larger nebulae, and with a 2-inch diagonal and eyepiece, viewing is also comfortable. This is the bare tube version: you choose your own flattener and guidescope, or you can opt directly for the set version with a flattener and guidescope.

In the box

  • Optical tube ZenithStar 61/360 II
  • Tube Rings
  • Arca-Swiss and Vixen-Style dovetail
  • 2 inch to 1.25 inch eyepiece adapter

Featured accessories

For flat-angle photography, the William Optics Flat61R Field Flattener (289 euro) the logical addition, along with the UniGuide 32mm guidescope (159 euro) for guided shots.

For whom yes, for whom no

Good for: beginning astrophotographers and travelers looking for an affordable, proven apo and wanting to choose accessories themselves. Not for: those who prefer everything in a complete package at once; the set version with flattener and guidescope is then more advantageous than purchasing separately.
