If you have two telescopes, you don't want to have to take the viewfinder off one tube and attach it to the other one. With an extra Telrad mounting foot on each tube, you only have to take the viewfinder with you and mount it on the telescope you're using that night. You can also replace a broken or lost foot with it.
The foot is intended for the Telrad red dot finder. That viewfinder isn’t directly attached to the tube, but to a separate foot that you attach to the telescope.
First clean the area on the tube thoroughly and free of grease before attaching the foot, and choose a place where you can easily look along the tube. Position the foot as straight as possible, then you won't have to adjust the Telrad as much afterwards. How to align your viewfinder and telescope, you can read in our explanation on adjusting the telescope.
If the viewfinder is too low for comfortable viewing, then there is the Telrad base increase of 102 mm.
