TeleVue Gibraltar HD4 Alt-AZ: Azimuth Mount: Heavy-duty alt-azimuth mount for 4-inch refractors

The Gibraltar HD4 is the mount for longer, heavier 4-inch tubes, such as the NP101is, and follows the same recipe as the entire line: large bearing surfaces, thick maple wood, and adjustable friction, without a gram of electronics.

The leg extension brings the height axis to approximately 1.5 meters, with a scale on the legs so you can precisely reset a found height.

The TeleVue Philosophy: Alt-Azimuth Without Electronics

TeleVue builds its mounts around a simple idea: grab, point, look. No polar alignment, no power, no menus. You push the telescope to your target, and friction holds it there.

The friction of the bearings is adjustable per axis, so tracking at high magnification is done with a fingertip. For visual observation with a refractor, this is the fastest route from the front door to the first object.

Why a wooden tripod

The ash wood tripod legs aren’t just a nostalgic touch: wood dampens vibrations faster than aluminum or steel. After a tap against the tube, the image stabilizes more quickly, and you’ll notice that every night, especially at high magnification merk.

The triangular wooden accessory shelf connects the legs and stiffens the whole unit; the metal ground stakes with rubber caps are stable on both grass and tiles.

Built on high magnification

A 4-inch refractor at 200x requires a mount that doesn't vibrate or jump. The large bearing surfaces of the HD head make fingertip tracking possible, while the built-in pier also allows space for the tube when looking steeply upwards.

A spirit level is integrated into the tripod base; digital object search encoders can be mounted as an option.

Featured accessories

The cradle accepts all TeleVue tubes up to the 4-inch size. The head can be upgraded later to HD5 format for a 5-inch tube.
