Omegon Zoomstar 15-45×80: a viewer, three magnifications
The Zoomstar 15-45×80 is the only zoom binoculars in our Omegon range. At 15x, you have a field of view of 2.6 degrees and a exit pupil of 5.3 mm for star fields; at 45x, the moon fills the field with crater detail. All with central focusing and no need to change eyepieces.
A zoom is a compromise: at 45x the exit pupil is 1.8 mm and the image is noticeably darker and narrower. For the moon, Jupiter and daytime objects this is fine; for faint nebulae, you stay with 15x. The tripod adapter is built in, and at 80 mm and 45x a tripod is required.

Zoom range
From 15x to 45x in one turn. The apparent field of view is 37 degrees: narrower than a fixed binoculars, and that feels like looking through a tube. On the other hand, you get clear overview without the hassle of zooming in. Eyepiece distance 14 mm; wearers look at the field with the ocular shells folded over, but not completely.

Optics and construction
BaK-4 prisms, full multi-coated, central focusing with dioptre correction on the right. Splashproof, not waterproof. The light transmission varies from 35 at 15x to 60 at 45x.

Tripod
The built-in 1/4-inch connection fits directly onto any tripod. At 45x you can see every vibration; a tripod with a sturdy tilt head is the minimum; the binoculars mount with counterweight is the more comfortable alternative.
