The uncompromising flagship of the CGEM II line

The Celestron EdgeHD 1100 CGEM II is for those who want to observe and photograph without compromise. The 279mm EdgeHD optics capture 1589 times more light than the naked eye, 1.4 times more than the EdgeHD 925, and deliver a flat, coma-free field of view right to the edge of the largest sensors. Galaxies reveal spiral structure, globular clusters resolve to their core, and planetary nebulae show color.

EdgeHD technology for the longest exposures

Corrections in the baffle level the field of view, the mirror locks prevent any shifting during long sessions, and vents quickly bring the large mirror up to temperature. With the optional f/7 reducer, the system becomes faster and wider for deep-sky photography. Realistic planetary imaging goes up to about 300x under Dutch skies; the resolution gain of eleven inches is visible at any magnification.

The CGEM II: built for this tube

The CGEM II is Celestron's heavier German equatorial GoTo mount: 18 kg payload capacity, NexStar+ hand controller with over 40,000 objects, All-Star Polar Alignment, permanently programmable periodic error correction (PPEC), and an autoguider port. The mount runs on 12V; a powertank is the logical addition. The 12.7 kg tube falls well within its specifications, even with a full photography setup.

The EdgeHD 1100 set up for a night of observation

For whom yes, for whom no

For the advanced astrophotographer or demanding visual observer seeking the maximum possible without an observatory. Not for those who regularly travel with their system; consider the EdgeHD 925 or a C9.25 on the Advanced VX instead.
