EdgeHD sharpness with the stability of a heavy platform

The Celestron EdgeHD 800 CGEM II Combines the 203 mm aspherical EdgeHD lens with the CGEM II mount. The corrected field of view keeps the star point centered in the corners of a large sensor, and the 18 kg load-bearing range keeps the tube, camera, and guide rock-solid in place. With 841 times more light than the naked eye, this is the starting point for serious EdgeHD photography.

The EdgeHD Advantage

Correction lenses in the baffle planes the field of view, mirror locks prevent shift during long exposures, and ventilation openings speed up cooling. With the optional f/7 reducer, the system becomes faster and wider for deep-sky work. Visually, realistic planetary work up to about 300x magnification under Dutch conditions is achievable.

The CGEM II Mount: Room for Serious Photography

The CGEM II is Celestron's heavier-duty German equatorial GoTo mount: 18 kg payload capacity, NexStar+ hand controller with over 40,000 objects, All-Star Polar Alignment, permanently programmable periodic error correction (PPEC), and an autoguider port. The mount operates on 12V; a power tank is the logical addition.

For whom yes, for whom no

Well: the astrophotographer who wants to run long, unattended sessions with an eight-inch EdgeHD. Not: those who primarily want to look visually or travel with light; the same tube on the Advanced VX is then more affordable and more portable.
