TeleVue Reducer 0.8x NPR: Focal Reducer: reducer for the NP101is and NP127is

The NPR 0.8x reducer was developed for the photographic Nagler-Petzval refractors. It takes an NP101is from f/5.4 to approximately f/4.3, while maintaining the flat-field correction these telescopes are known for.

Because a Petzval already flattens the field itself, this reducer only needs to reduce the image size; the correction therefore remains intact across the entire field.

What a reducer/flattener does

A reducer shortens the effective focal length: the field of view becomes larger and the f-ratio faster, resulting in more signal for the same exposure. The flattener function simultaneously flattens the field curvature, so that stars remain points of light even in the corners of the sensor.

The distance between the corrector and sensor determines the result. Maintain the working distance specified by TeleVue; every millimeter of deviation is visible on the field stars.
