Experience one of the most extraordinary astronomical phenomena of this century in a truly unique location. On August 12, 2026, O Castro Art Village, an abandoned village in the hills of Galicia transformed into a cultural gathering place, will become the setting for the total solar eclipse. As an officially certified Deep Sky Park, this location offers a crystal-clear starry sky free from light pollution.
Honest about the eclipse in this spot
O Castro is located within the path of totality, close to its southern edge. This means that the sun will be completely covered, with the corona, stars in the sky, and a special twilight during around 30 seconds, around 8:29 PM. Further north in Galicia, the totality lasts longer (up to ~1'50" on the coast), but massive crowds and traffic restrictions are also expected there. We are consciously choosing the peace and quiet of our own spot: no traffic jams at the crucial moment, an unobstructed view over the Miño valley, and afterward the peak of the Perseids under a moonless, dark sky, a combination that can't be experienced anywhere else like this. Do you still want the maximum totality duration? We'd be happy to give you tips for locations further north! For example, you can drive about 30 minutes north to extend the totality duration.
The experience
Together with astronomers, we dive deep into the cosmos. You will learn all about the Sun and the Perseid meteor shower, which reaches its peak at that moment. There are smart telescopes on location.

With this ticket, you are a guest at the village's campground for two nights during the Solar eclipse 2026. This package gives you two days of access to the field and the full program. The ideal choice if you are staying elsewhere, but want to go in depth about the technology behind the Solar eclipse 2026 and observing shooting stars. - Day ticket: workshop and solar eclipse 2026
A targeted ticket for the day of the eclipse itself. You attend the workshop on safe solar observation and then view the Solar eclipse 2026 in the field, with our smart telescopes providing razor-sharp images of the process. - Access only solar eclipse 2026
This option gives you access to the grounds at the time of the eclipse. You'll enjoy the tranquility of Deep Sky Park and catering, while in an exclusive spot the Solar eclipse 2026 admires.
For the campers, your stay is "Free Camping" in nature
The village is surrounded by a beautiful, protected forest. We operate on a 'free camping' concept:
- Location: You are free to pitch your tent at the spot you like best, within the designated zones on the grounds.
- Responsibility: You are a guest of local landowners; we therefore ask you to treat the place with great respect.
Important: the basic rules
To ensure the safety of the protected forest and the surrounding area, we are very strict with regards to:
- Absolutely NO fire: Due to the risk of fire, open fires are prohibited on the entire premises.
- Smoking: Only permitted in the specifically designated areas. Never throw cigarettes into nature, but exclusively into the available ashtrays.
Things to bring with you
Because we are going back to basics in nature, you need to be completely self-sufficient:
- Please bring your own tent and complete sleeping gear, as none will be provided. Note that pitches are on uneven terrain rather than grass; we highly recommend bringing a groundsheet or tarp to place underneath your tent.
- A flashlight (preferably with a red light feature to preserve night vision). These are also available in our webshop—feel free to ask us about current delivery times!

- Personal Care: Sunscreen, a hat/cap, and bug spray.
- Swimming: Don't forget your swimwear! There is a beautiful river beach just a 15-minute drive (or a 40-minute walk) away.
- Gear & Tech: A power bank for your phone/camera.
- Eclipse Glasses: Certified glasses are available on-site for a fee (cash only) or can be ordered online.
