Sky-Watcher EQ8-R Pro SynScan GoTo: observatory power for the heaviest OTAs
The EQ8-R Pro is built for 12- to 14-inch telescopes and carries up to 50 kg, making it the logical basis for a permanent observatory or a very heavy mobile setup. This item concerns only the mount head, allowing you to place it on your own pier or the separately available EQ8-R pier tripod.
Much has been improved compared to the classic EQ8. The internal cabling prevents cable breakage and keeps the setup tidy. Four USB ports and three 12V connections on the head power cameras and accessories without loose cables hanging down. The belt drive in the declination axis reduces backlash and makes tracking smoother, which is directly visible in sharper deep-sky images.
Built for long exposures
The reinforced axle couplings and the new dovetail clamping screws hold heavy optics immovably in place. The SynScan GoTo control offers 42,900 objects and multiple alignment methods. Autoguiding via the ST-4 port makes exposures of many minutes achievable.
Included
- EQ8-R Pro mount with internal cabling
- SynScan GoTo Hand Controller (42,900 Objects)
- 2 counterweights of 10 kg
Featured accessories
The Sky-Watcher EQ8-R Pier Tripod is the matching base for anyone who does not have a permanent pier. The external illuminated polar scope for the EQ8-R and EQ8-RH makes the polar alignment of this heavy-duty mount considerably more comfortable.
For whom yes, for whom no
Good for: observatories and advanced astrophotographers with heavy optics building a fixed or semi-fixed setup. Not for: anyone wanting to stay mobile, with a 25.8 kg head, this is not a mount to move every week.
