Sky-Watcher 10 kg Counterweight for EQ8 Series: Balance is Key

An equatorial mount only performs when balanced: the counterweight compensates for the weight of the telescope and accessories, allowing the motors to run lightly and evenly. Too little counterweight means wear, tracking errors, and vibrations.

With 10 kg, this is the weight with which the EQ8 class balances heavy OTAs such as large Newtonians, RCs, and refractors. Multiple weights can be combined so that you can fine-tune the balance for any setup.
