Omegon AC 80/400 AZ-3: the wide-field telescope for the sky and horizon

The Omegon AC 80/400 AZ-3 It's a wide-field specialist: an 80 mm aperture and only a 400 mm focal length (f/5). This provides a large field of view where open star clusters like the Pleiades and Hyades fit in one go, as well as distant landscapes during the day. With a total weight of approximately 4 kilograms, you can take it anywhere.

The achromatic doublet lens with multi-coating combines two types of glass to reduce chromatic aberration. At high magnification, a thin color fringe remains visible around bright objects; this is characteristic of this type of lens and does not interfere with normal use.

The AZ-3 mount with fine adjustment from Omegon AC 80/400

AZ-3 with fine adjustment: quiet tracking

The AZ-3 mount has fine-adjustment knobs on both axes. You perform coarse alignment by hand and then fine-tune it millimeter by millimeter. This makes tracking at higher magnifications smoother than with simple push-type mounts.

Omegon AC 80/400 Red Dot Finder and Zenith Mirror

20x and 40x: the field of view is the strength

With the included 20mm and 10mm eyepieces, you observe at 20x and 40x. This is deliberately a low-magnification telescope: at f/5, an achromat shows significant chromatic aberration at high magnification. Star fields, the full moon disk, and terrestrial panoramas are its domain.

Omegon AC 80/400 AZ-3 ready for nature observation

Just as useful during the day as at night

With the 90-degree diagonal you can comfortably look up and over land. Birds on the dike, ships at sea, or a mountain ridge on vacation: the wide field of view makes searching easy.

Featured accessories

The Omegon 7-21mm zoom eyepiece (69 euros) offers stepless magnification from 19x to 57x, precisely the strong range of this optic. An Omegon Premium moon filter (19.90 euros) dims the bright moonlight, and with the Omegon smartphone adapter 25-48mm (14.90 euros), you can photograph through the eyepiece.

Never look at the sun through a telescope without a certified solar filter: this can cause permanent eye damage within a second. For the partial solar eclipse on August 12, 2026, the Bresser solar eclipse glasses (€3.20) are the safest way to watch with the naked eye.

For whom yes, for whom no

For those looking for a lightweight, wide-field instrument for star fields, the Moon, and nature. Not for those who want to view planets at high magnification; for that, choose a longer focal length telescope, such as the 90/1000 EQ-2 or a Maksutov.
