Omegon LE Planetary 18 mm Eyepiece (1.25 inch): planetary eyepiece with 20 mm eye relief

The Omegon LE Planeten 18 mm is a planetary eyepiece with seven lens elements, a 55-degree field of view, and a generous 20 mm eye relief. It offers the widest field of view in the series, providing a broad overview with the contrast of a planetary eyepiece.

LE stands for long eye relief: the series is designed for relaxed viewing at high magnifications. The eye relief of 20 mm remains the same across the entire series, so switching focal lengths does not require getting used to a different viewing position.

Built for Contrast

Seven lens elements with multi-layer anti-reflective coatings and a design that minimizes stray light: this results in a dark sky background and high contrast on planetary disks and the Moon.

The image is free from the kidney bean effect, the black shadow that appears with many eyepieces when your eye is not precisely on the axis.

20 mm interpupillary distance

With a 20-mm eye relief, you can use the binoculars while wearing glasses without losing any field of view. Even without glasses, the view is comfortable: you don't have to press your head against the eyepiece.

The 1.25-inch barrel has filter threads for moon and color filters.

What do you see with 18 mm?

On a telescope with a 1200 mm focal length, an 18 mm objective provides 67x magnification; at 2000 mm, it provides 111x magnification. This is ideal for locating objects and observing more distant targets.

The full Moon, the Orion Nebula, and open star clusters like the Pleiades at low magnification are shown to good advantage.

Featured accessories

The LE series ranges from 3 to 18 mm with the same field of view, so combining focal lengths as a set works well. An Omegon moon filter (1.25 inches) reduces the brightness of the moon’s image; an Omegon Barlow lens doubles the range of the longer focal lengths.

For whom yes and for whom no

  • ✓ Planetary and lunar observers who prioritize contrast over maximum field of view
  • ✓ People who wear glasses and anyone who spends long periods of time observing
  • ✓ Owners of multiple focal lengths from the series: the view remains the same
  • For those seeking the widest field of view for expansive deep-sky fields: choose the Omegon SWA or Redline series
  • ✗ Smart telescopes without interchangeable eyepieces
