iOptron CEM70 EC2N-NUC Mount iPolar: dual encoders plus mini-PC integration
The iOptron CEM70 is a center-balanced equatorial GoTo mount with a load capacity of 31.8 kg (70 lbs), excluding the counterweight, and a head weight of 13.6 kg (30 lbs). The weight is centered directly above the center of the tripod or column, which gives this mid-range mount its characteristic stability and tracking accuracy.
The EC2N-NUC is the most complete CEM70: high-resolution encoders on both axes for real-time correction, plus NUC preparation with bracket and connection panel for an Intel NUC mini-computer (up to 38 mm thick).
WLAN and GPS are built-in. This makes it the headline for the fully automated, remotely controllable precision setup.

All aboard
Both axes are continuously corrected by encoders, while the NUC controls the session with software such as NINA. No guidescope, no loose cables, no computer next to the tripod.
The internal cable management powers and connects the camera, filter wheel, and focuser through the head.

GoTo with GPS and heated hand controls
The Go2Nova 8407+ hand controller contains over 200,000 objects and has a display heater for cold nights. The built-in 32-channel GPS automatically sets the time and position.
The adjustable counterweight shaft works down to the equator and the magnetically loaded gear system engages with large levers, even with gloves on. Autoguiding is possible via the ST-4 port.

Cable management for complete photo setups
The internal cable management offers, among other things, two 12V outputs and three USB 2.0 ports on the head. You can connect your camera, filter wheel, and focuser on top, without dangling cables that can snag during rotation.
The wide dual saddle accommodates both Vixen and Losmandy rails. The mount is supplied without a tripod; the LiteRoc tripod for the CEM60/70 or a Tri-Pier is the appropriate base.
Included
- CEM70 EC2N-NUC mounting cup with dual encoders, NUC bracket, and built-in iPolar
- Manual control with display heating
- Transport case, power adapter, and cables
Featured accessories
Combine the mount with the LiteRoc tripod for the CEM60/70 and an additional 2.5 kg counterweight for heavier tubes. The Intel NUC itself is not included.
For whom yes and for whom no
- ✓ Astrophotographers with tubes up to approximately 20 kg for photographic use
- ✓ Anyone building a fixed or semi-fixed setup with a lot of peripherals
- ✓ Who builds a robotic observatory on a small scale
- Light travel setups: a CEM40 or GEM45 would be more practical
