Schmidt-Cassegrain power, controlled from your phone
The Celestron Astro Fi 5 combines a compact design with serious performance. The 127 mm Schmidt-Cassegrain with a 1250 mm focal length delivers high magnification for detailed Moon and planetary work, in a tube that is shorter and lighter than any classic refractor or Newtonian with the same specifications. Operation is completely managed via the free SkyPortal app on your smartphone or tablet.
Over 120,000 objects in the app
With SkyAlign you align on three bright objects and the computer automatically recognizes your position. Afterwards, the SkyPortal app gives access to a database of more than 120,000 celestial bodies: tap, and the GoTo mount slews to it with automatic tracking. The telescope's own WiFi signal works everywhere, even without an internet connection.
Closed SCT optics with growth potential
The corrector plate seals the tube against dust and airflow. With the 25 mm eyepiece, you view at 50x; realistically usable is up to about 254x. The rear accepts standard SCT threads, so T-adapters and cameras will fit directly later.
For whom yes, for whom no
Good: anyone looking for premium closed optics in a portable, fully app-controlled package, with an emphasis on the Moon and planets. Not: anyone who wants to view wide nebula fields; choose the fast Astro Fi 130 with its wide f/5 field of view instead.
