Sky-Watcher StarQuest DX130P: parabolic on a lightweight EQ

The Sky-Watcher StarQuest DX130P features a parabolic 130/650 mm Newtonian (f/5) telescope mounted on the lightweight StarQuest equatorial mount: 30%—it gathers more light than a 114 mm model, keeps stars as points of light, and allows for tracking with fine-tuning. A complete, portable starter kit with high-quality optics.

Sky-Watcher StarQuest DX130P Newtonian on StarQuest mount

What do you see through the DX130P?

Sharp lunar craters, Jupiter's moons and belts, Saturn's rings and, under a dark sky, the famous deep-sky highlights. The parabolic mirror makes the difference compared to cheaper spherical mirror entry-level models: sharp stars far into the field of view.

StarQuest: equatorial in lightweight form

The StarQuest mount is a stripped-down EQ: light enough to set outside in one go, with the slow-motion control to track objects at high magnification. Ideal for learning the equatorial principle without heavy equipment.

This is how to get the most out of this telescope

  • Align roughly on the North Star: Roughly north and the correct pole height are enough to track comfortably.
  • Check collimation after transport (f/5); see our guide to collimation.
  • Magnification: the 10 mm eyepiece yields 65x; a 6 mm planetary eyepiece (108x) gets more out of planets.
