ZWO Camera ASI 715 MC Color: The Finest Pixels for Short Focal Lengths

The ASI715MC has the smallest pixels in ZWO's planetary lineup: 1.45 micrometers, on a Sony IMX715 Starvis 2 sensor with 3864 x 2192 pixels. This allows you to extract maximum detail from telescopes with short to medium focal lengths, often without a Barlow lens.

The sensor is completely free of amplifier glow, has a readout noise of up to 0.8 electrons, and is sensitive to the near-infrared. A notable feature is the passive cooling system (PCS): the sensor remains up to 15 degrees Celsius cooler than comparable uncooled cameras, which reduces thermal noise by merkbar.

Detail without extra optics

Where other cameras require a Barlow to sample fine planetary detail, 1.45 micrometer pixels are often sufficient with the telescope itself. Less glass in the path means less loss and a brighter setup.

Capturing the frames needed for stacking at 45 frames per second via USB 3.0 is smooth; the ST-4 port also enables autoguiding.

Complete delivery, also for all-sky

In addition to the camera, the box contains a T2 to 1.25-inch adapter, dust cap, pre-mounted CS-mount adapter, USB 3.0 cable, ST-4 cable, and a wide-angle lens. With this all-sky lens, you can use the camera directly for meteor recording or sky monitoring.

The high infrared sensitivity also helps with observations under moderate seeing conditions.

For whom yes, for whom no

Hello planet photographers with short to medium focal lengths and anyone who wants an all-sky camera for free.

Not Those who work with slow optics (f/15 and slower); larger pixels are better suited for that.
