TeleVue Sol Searcher: Safe Sun Finder by Projection

The Sol Searcher solves the most dangerous aiming problem in astronomy: placing a telescope on the Sun without ever looking at it. A small aperture projects sunlight onto a screen; if the spot of light is in the center, the Sun is in your telescope.

So you turn your back on the principle of a seeker: never look through something, only at a projection.

This is how targeting works

Mount the Sol Searcher parallel to the telescope tube and align it once on the Sun with the correct solar filter on the telescope. After that, each session is a matter of seconds: move the tube until the projected spot is centered.

The finder works with any telescope and any type of solar filter, from white light film to an H-alpha telescope.

Safety first

Never aim a telescope at the Sun without a suitable, undamaged full-aperture solar filter, and always remove or cover the regular finder scope.

The Sol Searcher replaces aiming over the tube, but never replaces the filter itself.
