This reducer/flattener is the photographic partner of the TV-102: it brings the f/8.6 doublet to f/6.9 and flattens the field to the corners.

This makes the TV-102 a serious astrograph for anyone who wants to use their visual refractor for astrophotography as well.

What a reducer/flattener does

A reducer shortens the effective focal length: the field of view becomes larger and the f-ratio faster, resulting in more signal for the same exposure. The flattener function simultaneously flattens the field curvature, so that stars remain points of light even in the corners of the sensor.

The distance between the corrector and sensor determines the result. Maintain the working distance specified by TeleVue; every millimeter of deviation is visible on the field stars.
