De Ethos 17 mm opent de reeks 17, 10 en 6 mm en is het laagste vergrotingsmodel dat nog met een matige lichtvervuiling overweg kan. Met een veldstop van 29,6 mm ligt het ware beeldveld dicht bij dat van een 26 mm Nagler, maar bij een hogere vergroting.

Dit is een 2 inch oculair. Een focuser of zenitspiegel met 2 inch aansluiting is dus voorwaarde.

What a 100-degree field of view does

A classic Ploessl has 50 degrees, a Nagler has 82 degrees. At 100 degrees, your eye can no longer take in the field at once: you’re looking around the image instead of *at* it. That’s the effect the Ethos series is known for.

Practically, this also means that objects remain in view for longer. On a manually tracked Dobson, this saves constant readjustment.

Overzicht met een donkere achtergrond

Bij lage vergroting wordt de hemelachtergrond lichter, zeker onder een stedelijke hemel. Doordat de Ethos hetzelfde ware beeldveld haalt bij een hogere vergroting, blijft de achtergrond donkerder en komt zwakke nevelstructuur beter uit.

Voor uitgestrekte objecten als de Noord-Amerikanevel of de Plejaden is dit het model dat overzicht en contrast combineert.

Viewing Comfort and Dioptrx

The eye relief is 15 mm at every focal length in the series. The height of the foldable eyecup is adjustable, so your eye is always in the same position.

If you wear glasses due to astigmatism, you can replace them with Dioptrx on the eyepiece. This corrects your own cylindrical aberration without the eyeglass lenses costing contrast and eye distance.

In your telescope

In een telescoop met een brandpuntsafstand van 1200 mm levert dit oculair ongeveer 71x met een waar beeldveld van circa 1,41 graden. Je rekent dat voor je eigen telescoop uit met de veldstop: waar beeldveld = 57,3 x veldstop gedeeld door de brandpuntsafstand van de telescoop.

De veldstop van dit model is 29,6 mm. Dat getal, en niet de brandpuntsafstand alleen, bepaalt hoeveel hemel je werkelijk ziet.
