TeleVue DeLite 9mm: 62° 1.25″ Eyepiece: DeLite eyepiece with 62-degree field of view
The DeLite 9 mm is an everyday mid-range zoom lens. On most telescopes, it delivers a focal point pupil of around 1.5 mm, the area where the eye resolves most detail.
The DeLite series is designed as a compact version of the Delos: the same principle of a long eye relief, but with a 62-degree field of view and a smaller housing. This makes the series suitable for mounts and binoviewers where weight is a factor.

62 degrees with a long eye relief
The DeLite series is designed as a narrower Ethos field of view with more eye relief. By keeping the apparent field of view at 62 degrees, TeleVue was able to bring the eye relief to 20mm without making the eyepiece unmanageably large.
For eyeglass wearers, that's the difference between seeing the full field of vision and missing a part of it. Even without glasses, you're looking more relaxed because your eye doesn't have to push against the lens.
Why the exit pupil counts
The exit pupil is the focal length of the eyepiece divided by the telescope's f-number. At f/6, this eyepiece therefore yields 1.5 mm. Around that value, the background in the sky is dark and the image remains clear enough.
Too large exit pupil sizes make the background gray, too small make the image dark and grainy. A set of eyepieces that covers that range is more useful than a set with only extreme values.
Interpupillary distance and adjustable eyecup
The eyecup is steplessly adjustable in height and lockable in any position, with index markings so you can find a previously found position. This ensures your eye's pupil is always in the same position relative to the telescope's exit pupil.
That's more than comfort. A misplaced eye causes edge discoloration and shadows in the image. With a fixed, repeatable eye position, that problem is gone, even during long sessions.
In your telescope
In a telescope with a 1200 mm focal length, this eyepiece provides approximately 133x magnification with a true field of view of approximately 0.46 degrees. For your own telescope, calculate that using the field stop: where field of view = 57.3 x field stop divided by the focal length of the telescope.
The effective field of view of this model is 9.7 mm. That number determines how much of the sky you actually see, not just the focal length alone.
Included
- Height-adjustable, lockable eyepiece
- Dust caps for objective and eyepiece lenses
- Filter thread abandoned
Featured accessories
This series accepts TeleVue Dioptrx, which allows you to correct your own astigmatism without glasses. For higher magnifications without sacrificing eye relief, use a Powermate. With a fast parabolic Newtonian, the Paracorr corrects for mirror coma, something no eyepiece alone can solve.
