Sky-Watcher WAVE-150i with Carbon Tripod: Fifteen Kilograms of Optics on a Backpack Setup
This set combines the WAVE-150i strain wave mount with the matching WAVE Carbon tripod. The harmonic drive can carry up to 15 kg without the need for a counterweight: enough for a large APO or an 8-inch astrograph with camera and guidescope. Head and tripod together weigh less than 8.5 kg.

The mount works in equatorial and Alt-AZ modes, with polar alignment from 0 to 90 degrees. The dual-fit saddle accepts Vixen and Losmandy rails. Operation is via WiFi or Bluetooth with the SynScan Pro app on Windows, iOS, or Android, compatible with Stellarium and other planetarium software. GoTo, autoguiding, and PEC are onboard, plus the RA brake for safe setup and disassembly.
Included
- WAVE-150i mounting head with strain wave drive
- WAVE Carbon Fiber Tripod (5.3 lbs, legs Ø1.6 in)
- Dual-fit saddle for Vixen and Losmandy rails

Featured accessories
The optional SynScan hand controller provides physical control in addition to the app. A robust 12V power supply is recommended for long astrophotography nights.
For whom yes, for whom no
Suitable for: demanding astrophotographers who transport heavy optics to dark sites and don't want to lug counterweights. Not suitable for: those staying under 10 kg; the WAVE-100i set is lighter and more affordable.
