Sky-Watcher Esprit-60EDX: Triplet precision in travel size

The Sky-Watcher Esprit-60EDX is an air-spaced apochromatic refractor with Japanese Hoya FCD100 glass (synthetic fluorite) and a focal ratio of f/6. Chromatic aberration is suppressed to below the threshold of detection, even at sub-zero temperatures. The Linear Power Focuser achieves focus without image shift, and the matching three-element 1.0x flattener (M48) is included as standard.

Why an Esprit?

The Esprit line is Sky-Watcher's professional astrophotography series: air-spaced triplets with premium glass, built to place flat, color-pure star fields onto a camera sensor. Stars remain points even in the corners, even with large sensors, and bright stars do not develop a purple halo. This is the class where optics make the difference between a nice and a publishable photo.

Unlike most small apo's, the Esprit-60EDX comes with its dedicated flattener included: the optical system is designed and corrected as a whole. The dual dovetail shoe accommodates both a finder and a guide scope for autoguiding. Small instrument, professional approach.

This is how to get the most out of this telescope

• Virtually no cooling time and no collimation: A refractor is ready within fifteen minutes, and the optics stay aligned. More time for photons.
• The setup determines your photo result: A Star Adventurer GTi or light EQ mount will suffice; the tube is light and the focal length is short.
• Dew control is essential with lenses: A dew cap or dew heater prevents the front lens from fogging up in the middle of a session.
• Visually pleasing as well: visually surprisingly sharp, even though this instrument is primarily built for the camera.
• Never look directly at the sun without protection., not even for one photo: only with a certified solar filter in front.
