Omegon MightyMak 60 Dobson: Maksutov optics on swivel-and-view mount

The Omegon MightyMak 60 Dobson place the compact 60/700 Maksutov optical tube (f/11.7) on a Mini Dobson table mount. Set it down, push the tube toward the Moon, look. The simplest operation that exists, combined with the most portable optics in the series.

The MightyMak is a Maksutov-Cassegrain: a closed tube with a coated meniscus lens at the front. Dust and moisture stay out, collimation is rarely needed, and the lens suppresses reflections for a high-contrast image.

Pushing is aiming

The Mini Dobsonian mount works like any Dobsonian: you push the tube towards the object and the Teflon bearings hold it in place. No tripod head that sags, no clamps to tighten. On a sturdy table or box, the setup is directly at eye level.

With the red dot finder, you aim with both eyes open, and with the 25 mm eyepiece, you view at 28x. With additional eyepieces, it is usable up to approximately 120x.

Also as a telephoto lens and spotting scope

Via the T2 thread with a buffer ring, you connect a camera and use the MightyMak as a super telephoto lens. During the day, with the zenith mirror, it's a fully functional spotting scope for birds and landscapes: the image is upright.

Featured accessories

The Omegon 7-21 mm zoom eyepiece (69 euros) provides continuously variable magnification from 33x to 100x without changing eyepieces. An Omegon Premium moon filter (19.90 euros) reduces the bright moonlight, and the Omegon Titania 500 tripod (129 euros) later elevates the setup from table use to standing use. With the Omegon 25-48 mm smartphone adapter (14.90 euros), you can photograph the Moon through the eyepiece.

Never look at the sun through a telescope without a certified solar filter: this will cause permanent eye damage within a second.

For whom yes, for whom no

Pros: anyone who wants the simplicity of a Dobson in the smallest format, at home on the table or on the go. Cons: anyone who wants to observe standing up without a table; in that case, choose the MightyMak 60 Titania with tripod. Compare all compact models via the Choice assistant.
