M48 is the thread size of 2 inch filters and many correctors. This extension adds a fixed 20 mm to that chain, for establishing the correct working distance or for positioning a camera.

On a Seestar with the S30 to M48 adapter, this extension tube also serves as a dew shield: the tube extends in front of the lens and keeps condensation and stray light away.
