Without a motor, an object slowly slides out of view because the earth rotates. At high magnification, this happens faster than you might think. This tracking motor rotates the right ascension axis with the sky, keeping the object centered.
What that yields
You no longer need to constantly make adjustments, which makes viewing calmer and sharing the image with others practical. Automatic tracking is also a prerequisite for simple moon and planet photography.
Four speeds
The hand controller has four speeds. In addition to tracking speed, it also allows for fine positioning without having to manually move the telescope.
