Omegon Camera veTEC 571 C Color: Cooled APS-C camera with 26 megapixels

The veTEC 571 C is the big brother of the 533 C. The same pixel size of 3.8 micrometers, but on an APS-C sensor of 23.5 by 15.7 mm. The field of view is almost three times larger at the same imaging scale.

For those photographing large nebulae complexes with a refractor or astrograph, that is the logical step: more field of view without sacrificing detail.

Sensor and field of view

The Sony IMX571 has 6252 x 4176 pixels on a diagonal of 28.3 mm and reads out at 16 bits. This provides a fine tonal gradation in both the core of a nebula and its faint outer edges.

The full well capacity is 50,000 electrons at high gain and 100,000 electrons at low gain, with a read noise of around 1.5 electrons and a quantum efficiency of around 80 percent. Amp glow is absent.

Cooling and dark current

A cooled sensor is the difference between a usable and an unusable five-minute exposure. This camera cools to 30 degrees Celsius below ambient temperature. As a result, the dark current drops to a level where faint nebulae structures emerge above the noise.

Because you set the sensor temperature to a fixed value, dark frames remain usable over multiple nights. This saves calibration work each session.

Connect and back focus

The camera has a T2 thread with a flange distance of 17.5 mm. The adapter sleeve makes it a 2-inch connection, with a 2-inch filter thread. Use 2-inch filters to prevent vignetting.

With the loose 12.5 mm adapter, you reduce the flange distance, which provides space for a filter wheel or an off-axis guider in the optical train.

Rear USB hub

There are two additional USB ports on the back. You can connect a guiding camera or an electronic focuser to them, for example, so that only one cable runs to your computer.

The hub works with USB 2.0. For the camera itself, you use a USB 3.0 port on the computer, otherwise the read speed will drop.

Software and method

Control is via ASCOM or INDI, with which the camera cooperates with N.I.N.A., SharpCap, APT, and Siril. Omegon's free capture software can be downloaded.

Please note: veTEC cameras do not have an ST4 port and are not intended for use as autoguiders. For guiding, combine the camera with a separate guiding camera, for example from the GUIDE or veLOX series.

Included

  • Camera with thermoelectric cooling
  • Adapter sleeve from T2 to 2 inch
  • USB 3.0 cable
  • Power supply 12 V / 3 A
  • Rugged transport case

Featured accessories

An off-axis guider is the most reliable guiding solution with this sensor size. The 12.5 mm adapter frees up space in the backfocus.

For whom yes and for whom no

  • ✓ Wide-field recordings with detail retention
  • Whoever wants the image field of an APS-C camera
  • ✓ Deep-sky work without amp glow
  • ✗ Small optics that do not fill the APS-C field
  • Anyone expecting an auto-guider port in the camera
