Omegon Camera veLOX 678 M Mono: monochrome 4K camera for lunar, planetary and solar work
The veLOX 678 M deploys the largest sensor in the series without a color matrix. Each pixel measures the entire spectrum, which increases sensitivity and enlarges the effective resolution compared to the color version.
With a quantum efficiency of more than 83 percent and 3840 x 2160 pixels, this is a camera for those who want to get the most out of lunar and solar photography.

Sensor and image
The monochrome Sony IMX678 measures 7.7 by 4.3 mm with a diagonal of 8.8 mm and features 3840 x 2160 pixels of 2.0 micrometers. The camera reads out with 12 bits and achieves 47 frames per second at full resolution.
The full well capacity is 11,600 electrons and the dynamic range is 74 dB. The exposure time ranges from 244 microseconds to 16 minutes.

Working with filters
Using RGB filters, you build up a color image from three sequences. For the Sun in H-alpha or in white light, you use a suitable solar telescope or a safe aperture filter.
Because there is no blocking filter for the sensor, you decide for yourself which part of the spectrum you capture.

Autoguiding with an ST4 port
The camera has a built-in ST4 port. You connect it directly to the autoguider port of your mount and correct the tracking during long exposures. Large sensor and high sensitivity make finding a guide star easy.
PHD2 recognizes the camera natively. It also works with N.I.N.A., SharpCap, and similar programs via the ASCOM and INDI drivers.

Connect to your telescope
The housing has the shape and diameter of a 1.25-inch eyepiece. So you can slide the camera into almost any focuser. The flange distance is 12.5 mm; with the included extension tube, it becomes 17.5 mm.
C and CS-mount thread, 1.25-inch filter thread via the adapter, 90-gram anodized aluminum housing.
Included
- Camera in anodized aluminum housing
- Adapter with 1.25 inch filter thread (C-mount to M28.5)
- Extension piece with flange distance 17.5 mm
- USB cable
- ST4 cable
Featured accessories
A UV and IR cut filter is a standard part of the kit for a monochrome camera behind a refractor. For color images, you need an RGB filter set.
For whom yes and for whom no
- ✓ Solar photography with the right equipment
- ✓ Lunar images with maximum detail rendering
- ✓ Like who wants to work in channels and merge later
- ✗ For those who want direct color images without filters
- ✗ Long deep-sky exposures without cooling
