Omegon 102/660 AZ-3 - Achromatic Refractor: the brightest azimuthal refractor in its line

The Omegon AC 102/660 AZ-3 is the largest refractor in the azimuthal entry-level line: 102 mm aperture and 660 mm focal length (f/6.5). It captures over 60 percent more light than an 80 mm refractor and approximately 212 times more than the naked eye. This makes not only the Moon and planets but also bright deep-sky objects such as the Orion Nebula, the Pleiades, and Andromeda accessible.

The achromatic doublet lens with multi-coating combines two types of glass to reduce chromatic aberration. At high magnification, a thin color fringe remains visible around bright objects; this is characteristic of this type of lens and does not interfere with normal use.

102 mm aperture: deep-sky participation

With the 20mm and 10mm eyepieces, you view at 33x and 66x. The wide field of view at 33x makes it easy to find objects; at 66x, you can discern details in lunar craters and planets. With additional eyepieces, up to about 150x is useful; above that, the chromatic aberration of the f/6.5 achromat becomes visible.

Fine-tuning on both axes

The AZ-3 mount combines manual coarse aiming with fine-tuning knobs for the finishing touch. This allows you to smoothly track a planet without the image shaking.
