Sixteen inches: the light giant that fits in a station wagon

The GSO 406/1829 Truss Dobson is a 16-inch instrument for the advanced deep-sky observer. The 406 mm mirror collects 3364 times more light than the naked eye: spiral arms in galaxies, filaments in emission nebulae, and globular clusters resolving into their cores. The truss design breaks the giant down into portable parts, so a dark site remains accessible.

Truss construction: large when in use, compact when transported

The truss tubes are disassembled without tools; tube sections and the rocker box fit into a regular car. The built-in fan quickly brings the large mirror to temperature, and the included dust cover protects the optics. With the 30mm 2-inch eyepiece (61x), you can take in wide fields; the 9mm eyepiece captures detail.

For the experienced observer who wants to see the maximum under dark skies and is willing to build a large instrument. Not for beginners or balcony observers; start with an 8 or 10-inch Dobsonian and grow later.
