Ten inch light output in a full metal truss design

The Explore Scientific Dobson 254/1270 Ultra Light combines maximum light gathering with portability. The 254 mm parabolic mirror gathers over 1300 times more light than the naked eye, and the lightweight aluminum truss construction gives you the power of a large telescope without the bulk of a classic tube.

Thoughtful Ultra Light Concept

The rigid aluminum construction with radial bearings and a balanced rocker box moves smoothly and stably, even at high magnification. The parabolic BK7 primary mirror rests in a 9-point mirror cell, two built-in fans quickly bring it up to temperature, and the secondary mirror spider is adjustable without tools. Fully metal, so no wood and no moisture problems.

Compact for transport

The modular design assembles in minutes and packs up just as quickly: all components fit into the rocker box. This allows you to take a ten-inch aperture to dark skies, where this size truly shows what it can do. Realistically useful magnification is up to about 500x on the sharpest nights; in practice, 250x to 300x is the working range.

In the box

  • Optical tube 254/1270 with aluminum truss structure
  • Parabolic BK7 primary mirror in 9-point cell
  • Two built-in mirror fans
  • Aluminum rocker box
  • 2 inch focuser

Featured accessories

A Omegon Premium Moon Filter 50 Percent 2 Inch (34.90 euros) the bright Moon comfortably holds onto this opening. A bag for the truss parts is not necessary: everything fits in the rocker box.

For whom yes, for whom no

For: Visual observers who want serious deep-sky aperture and regularly drive to a dark site. Not for: those who don't like collimating or setting up; a classic full-tube Dobsonian is then simpler, but much bulkier.
