In astrophotography, the focal point shifts over the course of the night as the temperature drops. Adjusting it manually every time takes time and makes the telescope vibrate. With an electronic focus system like the Electronic Focusing System (EFS) from Starlight Instruments, you focus with a motor without touching the telescope.
Check beforehand whether the system fits your focus lens and how you want to operate it, so you know which parts you need. For Feather Touch focus lenses there is also the MicroTouch set for 2 inch. You can find more systems at Motor focus for astrophotography.
Many astrophotographers combine such a focus mechanism with software that automatically focuses. At the beginning of the night, first focus manually at a coarse level and then let the motor do the fine work. If you want to start photographing with the telescope, see our astrophotography course.
