Classic optics with fine adjustment and a smart guide

The Celestron StarSense Explorer DX 102 AZ is the most complete refractor in the StarSense line. The 102 mm achromatic lens with a 660 mm focal length provides a wide, bright field of view. The DX mount adds something important: slow-motion controls on both axes, allowing you to precisely track objects with small adjustments. Meanwhile, the StarSense Explorer app guides you through the sky via your smartphone.

DX mounting with slow motion axes

At higher magnifications, objects quickly drift out of view due to the Earth’s rotation. With the flexible slow-motion rods, you can track them with fingertip control, without any jerks. This makes the DX 102 merkbar more comfortable to use than a simple push mount, especially when observing planets and the Moon.

Wide field of view thanks to f/6.5

The short focal length of 660 mm provides wide-field views: the entire Pleiades or the complete lunar surface at a glance. The 25 mm and 10 mm eyepieces deliver 26x and 66x magnification, respectively. Magnification up to approximately 204x is realistically usable with additional eyepieces or a Barlow lens.

Plate solving via your smartphone

The StarSense Explorer app uses the phone's camera to recognize star patterns in the sky and determine the exact position of the telescope. Arrows guide you to your target; when the reticle turns green, the object is in the eyepiece. The app recommends the most beautiful objects for your location and time each evening.
