Sky-Watcher EQ6-R Pro SynScan GoTo: The Workhorse of the Deep-Sky Photographer
The EQ6-R Pro is the further development of the legendary EQ6 and one of the most popular mounts for serious astrophotography. With a 20 kg payload capacity, it can carry large Newtonians, APO refractors, and complete setups with a guidescope and camera. The belt drive virtually eliminates backlash, making tracking smooth and quiet.
Periodic error correction (PPEC) further refines tracking accuracy, which is directly visible in tighter stars during long exposures. The polar altitude adjustment has robust adjustment screws with a large adjustment range. Alignment can be done via the built-in polar scope or via software.
Connections and transport
The mount has an ST-4 autoguider port, a USB port for PC control, and a SNAP port for camera control. The SynScan hand controller provides access to 42,900 objects. With a payload capacity of 17.3 kg and a built-in carrying handle, the EQ6-R Pro is heavy but still portable; for transport, you can remove the counterweights separately.

Featured accessories
The Oklop carrying case for the EQ6-R protects the mount on the go. The pillar support for EQ6, EQ6-R, and AZ-EQ6 gives long Newts more room, and a spare 12V power cable prevents a faulty connector from costing you astrophotography time.
For whom yes, for whom no
FOR: Astrophotographers looking to work with a 200/1000 Newtonian, a larger APO, or a full deep-sky setup and seeking a mount that will last for years. NOT FOR: Those who primarily want to travel light and mobile; they would be better off looking at the EQM-35 Pro or the EQ-AL55i.
